Frequently Asked Questions

Who can benefit from the Foundation’s assistance?

Initially, our support will focus on animal protection organizations dedicated to horses. These efforts allow us to reach horses in desperate need—often victims of neglect and abuse—and intervene where the need is most critical.

For these organizations, we will start by covering 50% of the invoice, enabling us to extend our help to as many horses as possible.

As the foundation grows and acquires sufficient resources, we will expand this support to include horse owners who face financial hardship, ensuring they can provide essential, life-saving care for their beloved animals.

Beyond direct support, the foundation is deeply committed to driving positive change for equine welfare on a larger scale. We actively fund scientific research that advances the understanding and care of horses, and we prioritize education and training initiatives to raise awareness and foster a more compassionate approach to their well-being.

What types of veterinary expenses are covered by the Foundation?

The Foundation provides support for all types of veterinary care. However, as we are still in the early stages, we are initially focusing on horses suffering from severe conditions and requiring urgent medical assistance. These critical cases are our absolute priority, allowing us to help horses in the most vulnerable situations.

As the Foundation grows and acquires more resources, we aim to expand our support to cover a broader range of veterinary needs. In doing so, we hope to make an increasingly significant impact on the well-being of horses.

How does the Foundation select the beneficiaries?

Animal welfare organisations can request a quote by contacting Equitom’s office by email or phone, as is usually done.

Once the quote has been prepared, our administrative department will forward it to the Foundation for approval, ensuring that assistance is prioritized for the most urgent cases.

What are my donations used for?

Your donations make a world of difference. They are used to cover veterinary costs for abused and neglected horses that are cared for by animal protection organizations.

They also help owners who, due to financial difficulties, cannot afford the high costs of necessary medical care for their horses.

Think, for example, of horses with bone fractures, those that have suffered repeated colics, or other animals requiring urgent and expensive treatments.

Your donation can save a life and give these horses not only a second chance but also a future filled with care and respect.

It is also possible to make targeted donations. You can choose to support a specific case, such as the treatment of a severely injured horse. Alternatively, you can contribute to scientific research aimed at improving the long-term welfare of horses.

Additionally, your donation can be directed toward training programs. This could include general training for owners or specialized education for young veterinarians from different countries. Through this, we provide international veterinarians with the opportunity to complete internships at Equitom, allowing them to gain invaluable knowledge and experience to take back to their home countries. In this way, your donations not only improve the welfare of horses here but also contribute to equine welfare worldwide by spreading knowledge and expertise.

Whether you choose to make a general or specific donation, you are directly contributing to a better life for these magnificent animals and to improving their long-term welfare.

Can I choose a specific project or organisation to support with my donation?

Absolutely! If a particular story or horse touches your heart, you can indicate this when making your donation. We will ensure that your contribution is used according to your wishes.

To show you how valuable your support is, we regularly share updates about rescues and heartwarming testimonials on our website and social media. This way, you stay connected and can see the tangible impact of your generosity.

Your preferences matter to us, and we are committed to ensuring that your donation is used in the most meaningful way, exactly where it is needed most.

Are donations used only for veterinary expenses?

Initially, our focus is on horses in medical emergencies, especially those whose lives are at risk. Providing life-saving care remains our top priority.

However, our mission extends beyond helping horses in distress. We are also committed to supporting scientific research and educational initiatives that contribute to the long-term welfare of horses.

This includes:

• Organizing training programs for veterinarians, both in Belgium and abroad, to enhance their knowledge and expertise in equine care.

• Promoting the prevention of equine diseases through better education and the adoption of innovative practices.

• Funding scientific research aimed at developing new insights and techniques for improved care and treatment of horses.

How can my company support the Equitom Foundation?

Your company can support the Equitom Foundation in several ways, with the most direct option being a donation.

Your contribution helps us rescue horses in need, advance scientific research, and develop educational programs that improve equine welfare worldwide.

As a token of our appreciation, we are happy to highlight your company through our communication channels, such as our website, social media, and events, providing you with additional visibility to a committed and valuable audience.

We also welcome tailored collaborations. For instance, you could sponsor specific projects, support training programs for young veterinarians, or help fund scientific research.

Together, we can explore how your company can make an impact while reinforcing its values.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss the possibilities. We’d be delighted to work with you to make a difference!

How can animal welfare organizations or individuals request support from the Foundation?

For organizations or owners, the procedure is simple:

1. Contact the office of Equitom by phone or email to explain your case.
2. If necessary, send photos, X-rays, or any other medical documents related to the horse.
3. A veterinarian will analyze the file, prepare a quote, and submit the request to the Foundation’s administrative team.

If we have the necessary funds, we can cover up to 50% of the veterinary costs. And if donations increase, we hope to cover 100% of the costs in the future.

What if a request is rejected?

An application is only denied when we don’t have sufficient resources at that moment to provide immediate assistance.

However, this doesn’t mean we’ll leave you without support. We will do everything we can to assist you in other ways, such as:

• Offering valuable advice to help you navigate your situation.
• Referring you to other organizations or associations that may be able to help.
• Exploring alternative forms of support, within or beyond our network.

Currently, our priority is to support animal protection organizations, as they often care for large numbers of animals in need. As the Equitom Foundation grows and receives more donations, our goal is to extend our support to individual owners who, due to financial challenges, are unable to provide essential care for their horses.

Can I organize a fundraiser or event for the Foundation?

Absolutely! We warmly welcome any initiative that supports our mission. Whether you want to organize a fundraiser or plan an event to raise awareness for equine welfare, we are delighted to assist you.

Feel free to contact us to share your ideas. Our team is here to guide and support you, ensuring that your initiative becomes a
great success.
